"Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for 'God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble'. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that in due time He may exult you. Cast all your anxieties on Him, for He cares about you. Be sober, be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour" (1 Peter 5: 5-8).
Whether it is alimony, child support, or the contesting for the rightful ownership of property, do yourself a favor and know that this too shall pass. Avoid acrimony, even if your spouse did the most wrong in your eyes, just live and let live. Raise your agony to God Almighty. Remember this: God does not interfere with our free will, even in a divorce crisis. But know that if you turn it over to him, in humility, then he will intervene somehow in his time, not ours. You must have faith, though. That is the ONLY way to please God. Now isn't that good news to your ears?
Of course, I highly recommend that you do not try to resolve all of the marital issues by yourself, but speak to or read about others who have emerged unscathed from divorce, as far as that is possible. Although you can't really see it, you are certainly not alone, and you can beat the depression that may be settling in.
I strongly believe that most marriages fail because there is no Trinitarian connection or cohesiveness (The Holy Trinity). If you are facing a divorce now, struggle to not let it get the best of you. I'm imploring you to realize that living in Christ Jesus will not only help you get through it, but your life will take on a whole new meaning. In a marriage or even in post-matrimonial issues, our tongues need to be edifying instead of acrimonious. Maybe even silence is necessary. Satan will try to use the tongue to further destroy and divide, especially when children are involved. I do believe that the Creator has given us two ears and only one tongue so we can listen twice as much as we speak, especially in a marriage (James 5: 12).
Did you know that you can even offer your pain to Christ if that's all you have right now? Look at the cross! He will accept it if offered in humility. Soon enough you will be filled with thanksgiving once again. Every soul is quickened by the Holy Spirit of God. Acquire the Holy Spirit in your life now, and he will carry you through the rough spots. You must steer clear of non-monogamous relationships. Never be salacious. That's not healthy. You know we have natural God-given sexual arousals in our veins, but it is only when we don't exercise self-control that we get ourselves into trouble. Know this too, it is not evil or wrong to have sexual thoughts; it's how we entertain them that matters to God. Let's remember too, that sometimes God uses our loneliness to get us to see ourselves. It is paramount to say here that if we are not generally happy by ourselves, we cannot be happy with anyone else.
