This is an excerpt from my book, GOD'S HEALING HOPE: BREAKING THE STRONGHOLDS OF WRONG THINKING. Our lives can be much more than simply routine living. We can make a decision to make them count for what is really important, using our gifts and abilities to the fullest to the glory of God and for the benefit of others.
Do the very best with the resources you have. Stretch yourself. Get rid of limiting thoughts. Leave your comfort zone. Take steps of faith. Believe God for the ultimate best. Somehow make your life count for God and determine to make a positive difference in the lives of others. Make a conscious decision that, by God's grace, no matter what you have been through, it will be used to help heal the hidden hurts of other people...Wouldn't it be great if Christians put forth as much zeal, effort, and discipline in developing their relationship with God and effectiveness with others as businessmen put forth in developing a successful business or becoming a millionaire? There is nothing wrong, of course, with simply going to work every day, to meet the needs of our family, but even that can become a rut. Someone once said a rut can be defined as a "grave with no ends." I encourage you to rise above the rut. (page 108)
We can rise above the rut by determining to make our lives count. What are some things you can do to make the most of who you are, and where you are, at this particular point in your life? Follow your heart. I think some Christians have allowed people to tell them it is unspiritual and shows a lack of surrender to follow their heart and dreams. Do what you want to do and glorify God through it. (page 109)
If we follow our heart, we must keep our heart right with God. It does not matter, however, what other people think. True, we need to be sensitive to what our spouse and family thinks, and guard against relationships being destroyed, but we cannot allow other people to hold us back in life. (page 110)
So, if you are a Christian reading this, ask yourself this question, "What am I doing to make the greatest use of my God-given abilities and potential to have the most impact on the greatest number of people?"
