Why in the world would anyone want to be a ghostwriter?

There is no honor or prestige in hiding behind your laptop and in the event that your material ever becomes popular you cannot claim any type of credit or royalty.

At most you will receive a meager check and hurry on to the next deadline.

When someone asks you what you do for a living and you reply with author or writer they will likely inquire deeper until they discover your lowly status. Then, of course they will want to know if you have ever written for any one famous, a known author. If you tell them you cannot divulge that they will assume you are lying and live on welfare.

They want the juicy stuff to tell their friends, you have now wasted their time pretending to be somebody and lost a potential fan.  Oh, if you had only been a real writer.

If you have contracted rights you can tell them of your collaboration with an author but that doesn’t happen very often.

Well those are the cons if one wanted to see it that way but for many of us that would be the pros on our list.

For whatever reason the spotlight is too bright for our ghostly eyes. 

We prefer to hide behind our laptops, away from the public scrutiny and book tours in our own little world or rather the world of our characters and employers.

If their books are their babies then consider us the nannies, content to love, nurture and grow a thing that will never be our own.
