Nudity and the Internet

It’s true : the internet is a great gathering place. It affords us the opportunity to connect with others and allows us to learn and grow through the sharing of diverse interests and expansive cultures. What is it, though, that causes people to lose their sense of decency and post nude photos on the internet?

Some openly admit that they are only looking for cyber sex and have no interest in a relationship. Others try to convince us that they are sincerely looking for a relationship partner and believe that the other person should see the "whole package". To those in search of a momentary pleasure partner, this approach will definitely work; there are both desperate men and women who will be drawn in by this kind of advertising.

Although they would most likely argue to the contrary, those who post overtly provocative and nude or nearly nude photos on the internet lack self-esteem. Posting nude photos is a desperate and brazen move, and those who do so would seemingly appear to be abundant in confidence; however, psychologists tend to agree that the reverse is actually true . Lacking in self-acceptance and unsure of personal qualities, those who post these photos consequently attract the wrong kind of attention. For someone comfortable in his/her own skin who is sincerely in search of a relationship partner, finding nudes in a profile is a real deal breaker and will only cause honorable wo/men to run as fast as they can in the opposite direction.

There’s no doubt that sexual playfulness is great fun for partners; in fact, it’s a crucial piece of every relationship and should be encouraged, most enthusiastically. There’s a time and a place for racy talk and sexual innuendo, and an initial encounter on the internet is neither. Frisky cyber interactions are best saved for a time when committed relationship partners are separated by time and space and are in agreement about this kind of exchange. As long as both partners are comfortable with it, a bit of playful telephone or cyber chatter might be just the ticket needed to fill that void until they are able to be together again in real time.

Anyone who is genuinely interested in finding companionship or a dating partner should spend some time learning to love him/herself. In doing so, the light will begin to shine from within, drawing nigh those who are most worthy.
