Why do we write?

Why do we write...?

I write not for self aggrandizement,

and ego plays no role.

Nor do I yearn for compensation,

nor fame or glory.

I care only to put to words,

those thoughts which well-up from my deepest soul.

To express in beautiful language and rhetoric,

those ideas born of the quintessential self.

To stretch the proverbial envelope,

and to show that no vision is too great, too tall, too impossible.

To help distill and vanquish the mindfulness and fear,

instilled to make us believe we are less than who we are.

To wave a magic wand with conjugations of letters,

phraseology and idiomatic witchery.

To inspire the souls of my fellow man,

to spark the flame of creativity and quenchless thirst for life.

To help blaze the trail of endless hope,

and timeless dreams.

For all of this my reward is but a smile,

the gleam in the eye of someone I will never meet.

To know that somewhere a child will be born,

who someday will dream because words said it could be so.

If I can help to open yet another closed door,

leading to that infinite land beyond all lands.

If I can cause and stir the ripples of change,

which catalyze a new and even better world tomorrow.

If I can grace the canvas of life with color and hue,

and brighten an otherwise cloudy and despondent day.

Then all is gained and all is won,

and the future looks brighter still than ever before.

That is why I write,

and nothing more.

The Heart's Way by Rebecca McKeehan

Love is universal and not limited to the most perfect among us. In this collection of romantic short stories and poetry, love comes to those who are decidedly imperfect, who possess very real human flaws, scars, and challenges. Awaiting us as we are.
