Every year John Blassingame and New Day Associates host their Hype Hair Natural Beauty and Today’s Black Woman Magazine Model of The Year Competitions. I really enjoy the events every time I attend but nothing could have prepared me for that particular evening.
As usual Newark Liberty International Airport Marriott was on fire! Mr. Blassingame is the executive publisher/distributor of several magazines that include Black Men, TBW Magazine, Hype Hair, Ocean Style, Heart & Soul, and many others. He put together a great weekend with get acquainted Friday, Saturday’s anniversary party, and Sunday’s model competition. People were everywhere; photographers, models, and agents. Dreamers in a place where dreams are fulfilled; what more could you ask for? The energy is always great at these events and that night was no exception.
On Saturday, the Anniversary Party was in full swing when the DJ announced the Launching of a New Industry Magazine called The Hip-Hop Business Journal by Vegas Style publishing. The executive of the company, Vince Carroll, was turned on to my work by an industry insider and love it. My novel Black Butterfly was his favorite and once he found out that I worked for BET eight years and NY Times Best Seller ZANE for five, his decision was made. Before I knew it I was receiving the literary award along with my favorite author of all genre’s Wahida Clark and the one and only Frank Lucas. Yes, the real Frank Lucas played by Denzel Washington; he won the humanitarian award for his charity.
Man, I was flying high. It feels good to receive recognition for your work but even better for your passion. I am really grateful to the most high and everyone that thought enough of me to read my work. All my work is available on Amazon Kindle right now and I look forward to the future.
