Childhood is a special but delicate epoch of life, during which we begin to appreciate the beauty and meaning of life; we begin to lay the foundation for our adulthood, and we begin to etch long-lasting impressions on our young and impressionable minds.

We are easily but permanently impacted - negatively or positively - by parental influence and upbringing, family background, societal perceptions, peer-group activities, religious viewpoints, wrong beliefs, myths and experiences about money and success.

Our childhood may have happened many years ago, but the subtle undercurrents of internalized childhood experiences, myths and perceptions remain with, and subconsciously influence our attitude, actions and reactions towards money, prosperity, success, and life generally.

This article examines the six mental barriers to wealth creation, and what you can do to overcome them. Enjoy it!

1.      Money Is Evil

Some remain poor because they think money is evil. This belief drives them to unconsciously avoid having plenty of money, even though they work hard every day to make a living. They have a warped understanding of the biblical verse that compares the possibility of the rich going to heaven with the impossibility of a camel passing through the eye of a needle! They erroneously equate wealth to sin and poverty to piety. They associate money with hell and poverty with heaven; and since they would like to go to heaven, they unconsciously sabotage their own efforts towards riches.

Consequently, they avoid becoming rich by not having the mindset, and not doing the things that create financial wealth. What they fail to realize is that there are many ministers of God all over the world, who are very rich and are using their wealth to uplift humanity in various ways.

2.      The Rich Are Special

Some remain poor because they see the rich as a special group who are divinely destined to be wealthy; while they see themselves as destined to be poor. This is a very unfortunate fallacy. Truth is, everyone has the innate potential to be, to do and to accomplish whatever they want. You are mentally defeated only when you admit so. "If you think you can, you can. And if you think you can't, you're right." Mary Kay Ash.

3.      Cursed, Under a Yoke, or in Bondage

Some believe they are cursed, under a yoke, or in bondage. They believe that unless there is miracle, deliverance or casting and binding by men of God, no venture they undertake will ever succeed. Such negative beliefs constitute serious mental barriers that prevent them from thinking properly, embracing opportunities, making right choices and taking appropriate actions that can change their fortunes.

4.      Intelligence

Another mental barrier is associated with Intelligence. Some believe that to be rich you must be smart and intelligent. They ascribe wealth only to smart and intelligent people. This is another fallacy. People with no more than average intelligence can become rich and successful if only they have focus, ambition, motivation, drive and the determination to succeed.

Never make the mistake of writing yourself off simply because you think you are not intelligent enough to attain great heights of wealth and success. You have all it takes!

5.      Education

Another mental barrier has to do with Education. Some think a lack of education forecloses their chances of becoming rich and successful. This is yet another fallacy. While it is recognized that formal education can greatly enhance your chances of success, it is also true that formal education is not a pre-requisite for becoming rich. Just look around and you will see many people who did not have the benefit of formal education, yet they are multi-millionaires.

Be not bothered that anybody is more educated, intelligent or smarter than you are. Focus on creating your own financial success by effectively harnessing and making the best of your abilities, talents and potentials. Believe in yourself. Successful people do.

6.      Poverty Consciousness

A major mental barrier to wealth creation is poverty consciousness. Some, even without making any serious effort towards prosperity, philosophically resign themselves to living in poverty. To such people 'money is scarce …money is hard to get …money does not grow on trees …everybody can't be rich …there is not enough money to go round', etc. These are fallacious beliefs. Even if you believe that somebody must remain poor for another to get rich, why must it be you that holds the short end of the stick? There is enough for everyone!

The Solution

Your 'belief-system' is causative. It inspires, motivates and propels you towards your earthly destiny. It governs your actions and reactions to life and living. You will always act in accordance with what you believe to be true about yourself, about others, about God, about Life, about money, success, prosperity, etc. However, what you believe to be true may actually not be true !

To overcome these mental barriers, first re-examine your beliefs and knowledge-base. Then expunge the wrong beliefs and fallacies garnered, absorbed and engraved on your subconscious mind over the years. Replace them with positive mental attitude and beliefs that restore your self-esteem and confidence in your ability and capacity to achieve.

Finally, accept the fact that your success in life is your personal responsibility. You gain nothing by blaming other people and circumstances. Instead call to action your 'response+ability' mindset, learn your lessons, dust yourself up and work smarter.
