What is your perception of Sex? Is it dirty, a taboo, or a pleasure pot? Is it the husband’s right and the wife’s duty? Is it a devilish temptation: the proverbial banana peel on the path to spirituality?
As the most intimate and profound sharing experience couples enjoy, sexual intercourse plays a special role in the equally special relationship called marriage. For many couples however, this ‘sharing’ is still at its most elementary level, simply because they engage in lovemaking purely for the wonderful physical release and sense gratification it offers.
However, whenever couples are physically connected in sexual intercourse, there is also a spiritual connection between them, whether they know it or not. Indeed, the fusing in mutual consent and desire, of the male and female sex organs, is in fulfilment of a more profound inner desire - that deep seated eternal yearning for full communion of Mind, Body and Soul.
As the primary bonding ingredient of a sacred relationship, sex is also sacred. When couples finally shake-off the many inherited inhibitions about sex, and gladly surrender themselves wholly, completely and unreservedly to each other, sex becomes not just a physical coupling of two bodies, but also a spiritual sacrament for two Souls on a journey of self mastery.
And as couples continue to grow in love and mutual reverence, it becomes easy for them to raise their sexual union above the purely carnal level and unto the glorious heights of sacred sexuality. That feeling of oneness that envelops the couples during and after a harmonious sexual union entered into in mutual consent and desire, is a truly mystical experience that opens the door into spiritual self awakening, if explored.
Sex is much more than physical self indulgence, and couples should begin to appreciate this. Sacred Couples should strive to raise their sexual acts from the level of mundane indulgence, and unto the higher ground of sensitive love-making that fully engages not just the two bodies in a physical union, but also the two Souls in a spiritual communion. When properly harnessed, the flame of sexual passion purifies and transforms sense desire into spiritual ecstasy.
What then differentiates sacred sex from ordinary sex?
In ordinary sex, a man penetrates a woman, and their primary motive is sense gratification that ultimately ends in explosive ejaculatory orgasms for one or both partners. But in sacred sex, the majestic Lord gently but firmly makes love to his gorgeous Goddess, as they together unreservedly ride the tide of sensual desire and passion, into the delightful gates of emotional and spiritual ecstasy that rewards them with a blissful eternal bonding of Mind, Body and Soul.
In sacred sexuality, the man sees the Goddess in the Woman, just as the woman sees the Lord in the Man; as they appreciate, revere, adore and thankfully enjoy the body temple together. Namaste!
