People suffer from colds no matter what month of the year it might be, but there is no doubt that the winter months definitely seem to be the cold and flu season.
And it is not surprising when you consider the common cold is a virus that can be passed so easily from one person to another. Simply touching an object that someone has touched previously with the cold and flu virus is enough for the virus to be passed onto you too.
There has always been the old joke about how men suffer from a cold far more than women do, but really the symptoms remain the same for all of us. It normally starts with a sore throat and blocked nose, leads onto fits of sneezing with a runny nose and normally ends with a hacking cough. It can last in general for about a week, although the cough can go on for longer, but all in all it can leave you feeling awful.
Although a cold or flu is probably the most common illness anyone will suffer from the advice to overcome it is surprisingly low-key. Stay at home, drink plenty of fluids, keep warm and rest until your symptoms have passed. In the USA alone it is estimated that more than twenty-two million school days are lost each year due to children suffering from colds and flu.
It´s all well and good advising people to stay at home and rest when they have a cold, but that doesn't really take into account those of us who have to keep a job down, especially when you consider that the average adult will suffer around two colds each year. That would amount to taking two weeks off work each year to recover from a common cold or flu. It just isn't feasible or practicable these days.
What the majority of people all over the world do to get around this is to spend a small fortune on over the counter remedies in the hope they can carry on working while suffering the symptoms of a bout of cold or flu. The problem with a lot of these over the counter products are the side-effects they often leave you with.
It is one thing to take a dose of cough syrup to help ease you hacking cough, but if the side-effects leave you so dizzy that you cannot drive to work or operate machinery then it seems an expensive waste of time.
But there is a more natural way of coping or even curing the symptoms of cold and flu that is not only much cheaper but does not have the side effects either.
Quite surprisingly this natural cure for a cold or flu is the fiery red hot chili, cayenne pepper. The healing properties of cayenne pepper have been known to a few for hundreds of years but for the majority of us this has been a well kept secret.
Cayenne pepper can be taken orally, either as a capsule or powder form, or as an ointment directly onto the skin.
To treat a cold or flu I always use the powdered cayenne and take it orally in a drink. There are recipes to treat not just a cold but also a sore throat and even the cough that follows a bout of cold or flu.
Take it from me the use of cayenne pepper in treating either a sore throat, cold or cough is quite amazing. I have used the sore throat recipe on the first day I became aware of my symptoms and within a couple of hours the symptoms had completely disappeared.
It really is something that you should try for yourself.
The healing properties of this natural spice should not be taken lightly, its benefits go way beyond just relieving a cold or flu.
