The new morality
(What happened to God’s Word?)
The morality of our society has diminished from being a firm foundation to a wavering thought process. The standard of morality has been lowered every decade. At one time in the history of our society the moral standard was placed on great heights, spiritually and naturally. With the standard being high it made us responsible and accountable on how we lived before God and our fellow man. Morality is defined as conformity to the rules of right conduct or virtuous conduct. Knowing what’s right has been dissolving as each decade has passed away.
Looking at the timeline of the world, remember the 50s. The fifties were a time where the people and stable families and to be strong and powerful people. In the 50s birth control was a crime in some puritanical states. Abortion was illegal and the government censors tried to jail publishers for selling candid books. During this decade society valued the treasure of righteous living rather than personal ambition or thought.
Remember the 60’s this was the starting point for the decline in morality. The 60’s was a pertinent time in American history because it shifted the pattern of how we behave toward each other. Racism, Poverty and Vietnam War were major factors that contributed to the decline of our morale. This was the beginning of twisting what’s right and wrong. Our foundation of what’s considered to be right and what’s considered to be wrong is founded on the word of God.
Isaiah 5:20 says “How terrible it will be for people who call good things bad and bad things good, who think darkness is light and light is darkness, who think sour is sweet and sweet is sour”. In the 60’s people died and fought for justice and equality. Even though the fight and struggle was well intentioned the standard of morality was losing its influence. Taking a human life became justifiable, breaking the family home structure was acceptable, division among ethnic races was promoted and the honor for authority was disappearing. The 60’s twisted our moral values. Morality was not recognized as a straight and narrow path but it was beginning to be streamed as a broad path of individualism.
Remember the 70’s when society’s morality was in question. In this decade the values of America were re-constructed from the Holy Bible toward human theology. The disco era set the social trend for the sexual revolution and the outlandish fashion. The beauty of intercourse was no longer honored in the sanctity of marriage. Lawlessness was considered to be the law, free and love was being presented as the model for healthy relationships and consciousness was held in the regard of escaping reality through the method of empowering drugs. The perception of morality was altered in 20. The once straight and narrow road was now transformed into a mindless walk of vanity, recklessness and turmoil.
Not only did the morality decay with our core values but he decline extended toward our personal image changing the way we dress and exhibit self respect. During this era the world was familiarizing itself with the new trend of apparel such as miniskirts, hot pants, halter tops and etc. As the 70’s reconstructed morality the 80’s transformed it through the powerful avenue of published media.
During this period of time the media started to dictate what’s right and wrong through the pathway of the airway. Violent images were promoted and advertised through movies, teaching us that violence was honored if it’s done for the right reason. Subliminal messages of worldly love and self gratification were spoken to us through the influence of music. In the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s the moral code was boldly changed but in the 80’s the morality was changed subliminally because the metamorphosis of re-inventing God’s standard and Word was transitioning. Tangible assets were earning a higher value than intangible assets. Preachers of the gospel were re-creating what’s deemed to be right rather than exposing what’s wrong. As the 80’s transformed America’s morality the 90’s manifested the downfall of our founding moral values.
Remember the 90’s the invigorating wave of technology. This was the decade where the World Wide Web became popularized. The internet broke the barriers and limitations of right and wrong. Decreasing the moral code became easier to violate because the restrictions of distributing information became an issue of a person’s individual right rather than a guideline for adhering to the moral code. The internet made the condemned, abominable and perverse thoughts of men accessible to everyone, which challenged people’s thinking and behavior.
People had an awareness of following the values of their parents, now they were presented with an option to break the rules and tradition of Godly teaching. The greatest deception that the enemy has told us is that we have options. The morality of our declining great nation has been tarnished through the deception of increasing our options. Our only option should be God’s word but our reality has shown us different. Since the 90s created the downfall of morality our current decade has wiped out morality.
Where is morality in this millennium? We don’t know what’s right and wrong anymore. We don’t know what’s sweet and sour. Every moral code has been converted and inverted to the point where morality has lost its identity. Homosexual is now an ethical practice, rebelling against authority is praised and celebrated, sexual immorality is highly exalted, violent acts go unpunished and God’s word has become null and void to the minds of the people . The new morality is an obsolete morality.
