Only the blind or the knavish are still shocked by what crawls from beneath the rocks of American society.

The smoke of debate billows from the fire of outrage because someone is bringing a lawsuit against various parties for the halftime fiasco at this year’s Super Bowl. All the head wagging and knee slapping over this one seems a bit vacant to me. Are we really surprised at this development? American society has become as litigious and as it is immoral. The political scientist who allowed those two vials of poison to mix have formed a concoction that will rot right through the center of society’s fabric.

That is not to say that the actions of Janet Jackson, MTV, and CBS aren’t worth punishing. If standards were set and kept in our society, perhaps ridiculously immoral public displays of debauchery, depravity, and nudity could be avoided. But we rarely set and hardly ever keep such standards. Morality, sensibility, and responsibility have long been replaced by market share, the bottom line, and one-upmanship.

If someone can actually convince a jury to give them money for being traumatized by Jackson's antics, who are we to stop them. Basically, we have created a society here in America that fosters such hubris. Those who are outraged at someone bilking the system must understand that the same atmosphere of moral decline that allowed for such a demonstration of lust during the half_time show at the Super Bowl allows for such nonsense in the courtroom.

Hasn't money become our God? Then aren’t those with the gall to bring forth such a lawsuit simply playing the game by its rules? If they win, won’t the ends justify the means? Wasn't it the hopes of big profits on her new album release that inspired Jackson to bare all? Mammon's offspring will never shock me.
