Experiencing the Unique Elemental Energy of Each of the Twelve Signs

I believe that an important part of understanding a person’s chart is an appreciation of each of the twelve signs’ seasonal, elemental, and energetic patterns (SEE). Knowing what the Suns’, Moons’, Mercury’s’, Venus’, and Mars’ SEE are, enhances our basic knowledge of astrology. It has been said that astrology is both an art and a science; I want to add that for me it is also grounded by my many years of nursing and academic experience - where I worked hands on with my patients and students - integrating theory, and learning how to be better at my profession. Being an astrologer is no less different for me. How could I truly ascertain what a chart might be revealing about an individual’s gifts, if I weren’t able to glean the subtle nuances of what that person’s elemental pattern might be like? Simply put, the knowledge “Paints a picture,” and imagery is a valuable tool in helping to fully understand others.
We are currently in the season of “High summer” here in the Northern Hemisphere, when lawns can tend to look a little parched, and we as humans need to plan on keeping a hydration source with us at all times so that we have a way to cool down. Interestingly, when we are exposed to a variety of different climatic conditions throughout the year, do we not tend to feel different while we are in each one of them? The time of year of our birth and the elements of our planetary expressions speak to the uniqueness of each of us. When we add the fact that in astrology there are three signs that are considered to be “Fiery” (Aries/Leo/Sagittarius), three to be “Earthy” (Taurus/Virgo/Capricorn), three to be “Airy (Gemini/Libra/Aquarius), and three to be “Watery (Cancer/Scorpio/Pisces);” we might pause to consider how it is that they are different from each other, and thus how we as humans are different than each other.
The table below was designed to familiarize the reader with the seasonal, elemental, and energetic nuances that are within each natal chart. Note: In astrology there are three types of energies or modes that are expressed: 1) Cardinal or initiatory “I begin,” 2) Fixed or conserving “I maintain,” and 3) Mutable or changeable “I vary.”
