What desires are you following? Find out how your desires can be rooted solid to blossom beautifully.
Have you ever thought about how the 12 disciples were chosen to follow Jesus? He chose some interesting characters, didn't He? But why? Think about it for a moment. The King of Kings and Lord of Lords, choosing a tax collector, doubter, a traitor, and fishermen. This was His team. Not kings ruling the land having the power to lay down laws and enforce obedience. Not priests who were knowledgeable in the laws of the world and the laws of God. No one popular or extremely influential. As a being who's plan is to impact the whole world, you for instance, have an idea to gather a team of people to execute this plan. You can chose anyone. This team takes what you've taught them and in essence goes out in hopes of changing everyone. Who do you choose? Who is selected for this life changing apprenticeship? And how is the partnership for altering eternity conducted? If it were you or I, we'd probably choose the best and the brightest. We'd consider influence, popularity, status, and maybe good looks. We'd take into account education, background, and health. We may even go as far as to consider personal attributes that deal with sexuality, emotions, goals, and perspectives. I'm quite sure we'd consider it all my friends. The least bit of reluctance toward a candidate could cost him/her the title. But that's just us. Jesus on the other hand, He knew better. Sure, on the onset, the selection does not appear better. But Jesus always had a manner about Him that foresaw the potential of something from the end, backed up and then started from the beginning to walk with that potential thereby empowering it to act exactly as He envisioned. I hope you caught those words beloved. The treasures in that revelation are rich. Let's break this down to you:
The Father knows your potential. He placed it there. That is why when He uses situations and people to draw you near, it's only to bring out of you that which He already placed - a need for Him. Once confessed, this invitation is all He needs to reveal Himself to you in a deeper way. Now He can walk with you (as with the disciples), because you've invited Him. But not only does He want to guide you by walking with you, He desires to give you the strength and power to use the potential He's placed inside of you, that potential He envisioned before you existed.
Think of it this way. We're warned to be careful where we place items in our homes that are flammable as it may cause explosions. Well the spirit that God has placed inside of you is flammable. And I guarantee you, when you open your spiritual house to allow the Lord to guide, work, and abide, you will experience an explosion. It will not be an explosion the world can put out (unless you allow it). The world will try to water your fire with lies from the enemy. Events will take place that the enemy is hoping will produce a water that will quench your fire with despair, depression, deception. Circumstances will attempt to put your fire out by taking you on emotional roller coasters with loved ones, doubting your faith in times of pain and poor health, and questioning the existence of the combustion during times of poverty. But friends, the fire is very real. It has no requirements. It holds no social scale. Its measure lacks standards but preys upon one venture; desire. For whosoever will, let him come. I'm a whosoever. You're a whosoever. That in and of itself is all you need to get the fire lit.
In Hebrews 12:29, God is described as a consuming fire, not just a fire. This means that He literally absorbs what abides in Him. He then changes its composition and destroys the excess while creating something completely new.
So back to the original question. Why did Jesus choose the 12 He did? I believe one reason was that He desired to have disciples He could change and also ones that wouldn't fight that change, but desire it also. Then once desired, to go all over and multiply this desire in others.What desires in your life are you following beloved? Are you following the following: love, peace, joy, health, prosperity? If you are, may I encourage you to direct them to the desire originator. For in Him is the fullness of all these things. Seeking Him in a greater capacity, will allow Him to bring out in you the potential for all these things. The key is not just desiring Him but inviting Him, and abiding in Him. It's continual. It's daily. It grows. It spreads. And it continually renews. You'll be surprised that soon you'll be following His following (desires) and not your own which amazingly is exactly how He pictured it.
