Information on the character Kath Coxton, AKA 'The Dragon'.
Kath Coxton is a monstrous woman in her early seventies who spends her days chain-smoking and watching endless hours of crap TV, and her nights drinking heavily in the kitchen of the grim, three-bedroomed semi-detached house where she has lived since marrying Stan, almost fifty years earlier. Kath is a mother to Todd and Valerie, who are both in their forties. Much to Kath's eternal outrage, Valerie is gay, and lives with a partner called Sharon Wilder. Todd is a loner who spends most of his time in his bedroom, and is possibly autistic; each evening, he appears briefly in the kitchen, and insists on placing a coloured sticker on the family fridge, for reasons unknown. Todd has a different coloured sticker for each separate day of the week. By all accounts, his favourite sticker is Black, which represents a Thursday.
Kath once had an enormous crush on a fellow factory worker called Winston Kidney, but her passion for the handsome Jamaican man was completely one-sided. Winston has always reminded Kath of the male member of the band 'Boney M'. It is rumoured that Kath once commited an act of unspeakable perversion, and that the incident was allegedly recorded in a photo album known only as 'The Cat and Jelly'. This allegation is fiercely denied by Kath. The ageing housewife does, however, openly admit to having had a lesbian affair, when she was a schoolgirl, with another girl called Nancy Apple, whose father had run away to join a circus, because he had a beard.
Kath Coxton is unusually tall in stature, almost six foot six in height. She is also a self-obsessed alcoholic with occasional violent tendencies. Kath once attacked her husband, Stan, on Christmas Eve. In keeping with the festive theme, Kath threw a turkey drumstick, and then a glass of sherry, at Stan's head, before stabbing him in the face with a carving fork. Kath then tried to suffocate her hapless husband by placing a black bin-bag over his head, but relented at the last moment, and allowed him to live. Despite the savagery commited upon his person by his own wife, Stan never told the hospital staff - or the investigating police - the identity of the person who had attacked him.
Kath is prone to delusions of grandeur, and doesn't like it when things don't go her way. She can be incredibly dramatic during one of the frequent arguments that break out in the family home, and this usually leads to her delivering a long-winded and drunken monologue, the contents of which usually make little sense to anyone who is unfortunate enough to be on the receiving end of them. Kath Coxton is due to debut in an ongoing series of short books called 'The Dragon Lectures', the first of which will be published in the spring of 2016.
