"MOTHER MARY ANN WRIGHT
OF OAKLAND CALIFORNIA!"
I wrote an article that was published on the front page of the newspaper about the amazing Mother Mary Ann Wright of Oakland, California which you may read at the link below!
And I gave a talk about my newspaper article at the Oakland Library and Congresswoman Barbara Lee sent a video tribute about Mother Wright to share at my library event!
Mother Mary Ann Wright told me she slept sitting up in a chair all night so that she could feel the suffering of the homeless sleeping on concrete streets. And I knew I was in the presence of a non-denominational saint.
She said yes to what she described as a call from God to go out in the night and offer food and blankets to Oaklands homeless people living under the freeways.
Mother Wright answered her call in extradionary ways.
I don't know what I did to have had the good fortune to volunteer with Mother Mary Ann Wright for two years, but her humble service to the poor changed my life forever!
My poetry trubute to Mother Wright below;

'MARY ANN WRIGHT — SAINT OF THE POOR'
by Judy Joy Jones
Mother Mary Ann Wright
Saint of the Poor
slept sitting up all night
so she could feel
the suffering
of the homeless
all over earth’s shores
Hearing God’s call
to take blankets
food and clothes
to the homeless
on the streets
in the darkest nights
Mary Ann Wright did go
How many souls
she fed and clothed
the world will never know
but her love for the poor
lives on through eternity
and her saint’s halo
forever glows
Mother Mary Ann Wright
Saint of the Poor
sheltering the homeless
in her loving arms
she was the mother
they had never known
sent by God alone
