Joni
Joni A Living Miracle!
by Judy Joy Jones
Joni had a diving accident,
broke her neck and according
to her autiobiography "Joni" it was
during her hospital rehab
she finally accepted her fate.
A nurse failed to turn Joni's bed
which she needed in order to breath properly
and when the nurse finally arrived, several hours late,
Joni's prayers which had been;
'Please Make me Whole Again and Out
of this Wheelchair' became instead;
"Thy Will be Done"
She accepted she would be in a wheelchair the rest of her life.
Joni Eareckson Tada's million selling book; "Joni" was made
into a movie and her paintings which she does by holding her
paintbrush through her teeth are available online.

I know from experience that the mind and willingness to continue like before is normal for those of us with spinal cord injury. Often leading to depression until we realize that we have to continue with what we have. I have always found that my right hand and arm that I could write with until 1998 could still draw and paint. Since 1998 I've had to draw with words.
I have seen others do painting with their mouth. I would find that very difficult to do without having a helper nearby to mix my paints and allow me to get close enough to the canvas to do the work with the limited motion of my neck where my injury is.
