"A Diamond is a Lump of Coal that Stuck With It - Diana Nyad!
by Judy Joy Jones
This is my second article about Diana Nyad in which I am adding the latest achievments in her amazing career!
After four failed attempts, at age 64, Diana Nyad became the first person to ever swim 110 miles in 52 hours from Cuba to Florida without a shark cage!
Upon emerging from the ocean after her 52 hour non-stop swim; Diana who was 64 years old said;
"NEVER GIVE UP AND YOU CAN ACHIEVE YOUR DREAMS AT ANY AGE!"
"NYAD", a documentary about Diana
had its world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival on September 1, 2023 and is being released in theaters on October 20, 2023.
After reading Champion Swimmer Diana Nyads book; "Other Shores" it inspired me to not only start swimming but to compete in and finish The La Jolla Rough Water Five Mile Ocean Swim several years later.
I posted a saying from "Other Shores" on my wall; "A DIAMOND IS A LUMP OF COAL THAT STUCK WITH IT!" and put it to use in my own life everyday.
I interviewed Diana Nyad on my Judy Joy Jones Show which you may listen to at the link below and you will hear Diana saying she would never swim again. But she did and three years later, at 64 years of age, Ms. Nyad completed her world champion swim: 110 ocean miles in 52 hours from Cuba to Florida without a shark cage.
'Dreams Come True' when like Ms. Nyad, we never stop working to make
them happen!
