you had!!
As president of our college ecumenical group, I got a free trip by bus to Lincoln and a place to sleep on the floor with seven ministers in a motel room, as well as, the freedom to attend all of the festivities even though I got sick for four days with 104 temperature. Recovering just before the new year presentation.
I was in the balcony of the auditorium on the left side. Dr. King came onto the stage on the left side with a bodyguard on each side to give his speech about 30 feet from where I was.
With his booming voice he began droning in that characteristic oratory style taught by Dr. Freeman to him at Morehouse College before Freeman came to Texas Southern University in 1947 where his debate teams won international fame and he taught other greats how to speak like Barbara Jordan and Mickey Leland among many others.
Before his speech was over, I was convinced to join in the cause of civil rights through nonviolent protest and would follow him to my death, if necessary. The audience was swayed, as well.
