Moving to a new house can be difficult at the best of times but doing it in the height of the summer can be particularly challenging. When the weather is hot and sticky you don’t want to be rushing around carrying heavy boxes and getting stressed so take some extra time to plan your move and beat the heat.
Fans
Use them, lots of them to keep the air circulating whilst you pack all those last minute bits and pieces and carry heavy boxes around. This will make the temperature in your house more bearable as you complete your move. Remember to make sure that the fans are one of the last things you load onto the van and one of the first things to be unloaded at your new home.
Plenty of water
Regardless of what you are doing during the hot weather you should always keep hydrated, too much heat combined with a lack of water can make you very unwell. Make sure you have plenty of water bottles to hand during your move and make sure you take regular small breaks to keep yourself hydrated. If you want to keep your water chilled but have already unplugged the refrigerator, then make up some bottles with ice cubes in to help keep water cooler for longer. Don’t forget to keep your furry friends hydrated during your move as well.
Dress appropriately
Let’s face it you are going to get hot so think about the clothing you wear on moving day. If you have exercise or leisure clothes that are designed to keep you cooler and wick away any moisture, then consider wearing those they will probably be far more comfortable than anything else you have in your wardrobe. The exception to this is footwear, if you are likely to be lifting lots of things, and you might drop items, then stick to footwear that keeps your toes covered, moving day is not a good time to injure yourself.
Don’t forget about your pets
Animals can really struggle in the heat so make some careful plans for your pets when moving in the summer. If you are not moving too far then perhaps you have a friend or family member who could look after your pets for a few days in their own home ensuring that they don’t get overheated by the move. If you are moving a larger distance, then make sure you set up a cool shaded area for your pest both at your old home and the new one with plenty of water. Make sure your air conditioning is working in your car as well as hot car journeys can be very stressful.
