Whether you are a crafter or live with one you will know just how much craft stuff can be accumulated over a relatively short space of time and how, despite there really being no more space in the craft room, extra stuff always seems to sneak in! Whilst it isn’t always possible to separate a crafter and their hoard here are 5 tips to help make the craft room less cluttered.
1.Take Stock
Quite often a crafter will decide to add a new string to their bow and add a new craft to the list of ones they do. And quite often this will end up running to just the one project before they decide the new craft isn’t the one for them, so if this is the case go through all your craft supplies and take out anything that you are unlikely to use again. I suspect this will be tools rather than materials because those can probably be used for other crafts. Find a local craft group to sell or pass these items on to. This may not make much space but it is a start.
2.Boxes
Not cardboard ones but clear plastic storages ones, and you will definitely need plenty, and in a variety of sizes. Boxes are a great way of sorting out all of your craft bits and pieces and if you choose ones with tight fitting lids they will keep all of your supplies dust free as well. It is worth labelling them but if you chose clear boxes you will be able to see what they contain at a glance.
3.Sort by season
If your craft room is on the small size and some of your crafts are things you only do at certain times of the year then it might be worth looking for cheap storage locally. This would allow you to remove some of your crafting items on a seasonal basis and create more space in your crafting room, just try not to fill it with more craft supplies. Remember when you go to collect supplies from storage swop them for other seasonal crafting items to keep your craft room clutter free.
4.Organise
If you have room put lots of shelves or cubby hole storage units into your room. You can use these for storage;why not make a feature of it at the same time. Bright coloured wools and materials will look great on a plain shelf and can provide a real splash of colour. There are lots of clever ideas on Pinterest to inspire you.
5.Peg board
Don’t forget all those little bits and pieces that need sorting. Attach a peg board to your wall and hang all your little bits and pieces from it. This will make it much easier to find them at a glance and will save you turning your craft table upside down looking for them.
