While the Bible is not clear as to whether or not the serpent stood upright and walked before the curse. It appears likely that like other beast it probably did walk on four legs. That would seem to be the best explanation of Genesis 3:14;  “The LORD God said to the serpent, "Because you have done this, Cursed are you more than all cattle, And more than every beast of the field; on your belly you will go, And dust you will eat All the days of your life.”  The fact that the serpent was cursed to crawl on It’s belly and eat the dust of the earth forever is a Very Strong indication that it walked on legs and feet. and is also a way of indicating that the serpent would be forever despised and looked down upon as a vile and despicable creature known as a Snake and be an object of scorn and contempt by mankind.  The serpent was used by Satan. Why?  you may ask; did God curse the serpent when He knew that it was actually Satan who had led Adam and Eve into sin? The fate of the serpent is an illustration. The curse of the serpent will one day be the fate of Satan himself (Ezekiel 28:12-19 (The King of Tyrus is symbolic of Satan).

(Gen. 3:1)  does not indicate that the serpent talked, it says that he did talk.  We are not told anywhere other than (Gen. 3)  that he talked to humans and why Eve was not afraid to communicate with him we are not told.  One evening when I was talking out loud to myself,  my wife, without thinking of what she had said gave me what I believe is the answer. She said; “Eve did not know what was evil at that time,  to her everything in the garden was good.” end of quote.  Eve did not know good from evil until she ate the fruit of the tree of  knowledge.  Satan does have the power to confer speech to beast that people would normally fear. Rev.13:15.   “And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.”  We will never know the real answer to the question because it is not important for salvation.  You don’t have to understand all the details of what God has spoken about various events.  It is however, important that we believe what He says in His word in it’s context.  If you don’t believe this,  why then should you believe that Jesus rose from the dead and why should you believe (Eph.2:8-9)?.”For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
