AMERICA IS HARDENED AGAINST GOD'S AUTHORITY. Does this statement shock you? Do you, can you, honestly disagree? Do you prefer not to consider that this is true ? The fact is ... the rapid decline that you and I are witnessing is all the proof needed. That being said, what is 'hardening'? In the original Hebrew is carries two meanings: 1) the first is to be heavy with honor, abundance, and glory. 2) the second is to become dull, insensible, and unresponsive. Combining these two meanings, 'hardening' describes the condition where as a result of the accumulation of honor, abundance, influence and power someone *(a nation) starts to become increasingly dull, unresponsive, and incapable of course correction. 'Hardening', therefore, is the classic effect of pride and arrogance. Scores of individuals who have professed faith in Christ, in fact, are 'hardened'. They are dull of hearing, and unresponsive to the Word of God. They have lived in America in the best of times ... have accumulated, honor, or abundance, or influence and power. They have become prideful and arrogant. They have abandoned Christ's Kingdom purposes as evidenced by the fact that they have, for all practical purposes, abandoned Christ's church.
The fact is, America is made up of over 300 million individuals. Other than those who are steadfastly faithful to Christ (a very small minority), the rest are 'hardened' against God's authority. As a nation, we are 'hardened', it appears certain, to the point of no return. Let's now flesh out America glorious past and what certainly appears to be a bleak future.
America's rise has been meteoric and glorious. America is less than 300 years years old, and yet America stands among history as the most powerful, self-sufficient nation in all of human history. God has blessed America as no other nation on earth, but America became enamored with her own success; America rested, and came to trust, in her accumulated power both in economic and military terms;
America has become prideful, and in that pride has expelled God from every area of public life ... from the courthouse, to the school house, to the houses of government. Even the vast majority of individual homes are devoid of any definable, meaningful commitment to Christ.
Make no mistake, what I have described has been the path of EVERY earthly empire that has EVER existed. Study history, see for yourself. There comes a time in every empire when you have won too many times to even consider the possibility of defeat; when you have overcome too many challenges to consider the possibility of failure; when you have defeated too many forces to consider that the one it now faces cannot be defeated; when you have weathered too many crises to think that you cannot come through the current one.
Consider: everyone is saying that it is going to get better, and that we will rise again; that the massive U.S. Economy will recover and roar back. Why do so few speak the truth that what we are experiencing is unprecedented? Morally and economically we have never been so deeply adrift and in trouble. CAN God reverse the condition and fortunes of America? Absolutely! He is Sovereign in power, nothing is too hard for Him. His arm is not short that He cannot heal; nor is His ear dull that He cannot hear. BUT, make no mistake, our Country is 'hardened' against God. At the end of every 'hardening', in all of human history, the result has been the utter destruction of the 'hardened' individual and/or nation.
We have no other option than to cry out to God in repentance, and tearfully plead for Him to hear, show mercy, and forgive. The time is short.
