Why is the Book of Joel virtually unknown, when it not only forms much of the theological basis of Christianity post Ascension, but also happens to be the 2nd most apocalyptic book in all of the Bible?

Almost no-one seems to know there is a Book of Joel in the Bible. Trust me. I know. I will sometimes even have to spell the name Joel for people.

St Peter at Pentecost, uses Joel chapter 3 as justification for the Apostle’s performance of their miracles under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Verses from Joel constitute readings for Ash Wednesday, Pentecost, and occasionally in October (Timing of the 3rd annual Hebrew festival, see blogs.)

Joel chapter 2 relates the story of the prophetic ‘attack of God’s army’. Yet most everyone in Christianity is totally oblivious to this stark reality.

1st please notice that chapter 4 seems to be about Armageddon. All the armies of the world are gathered in the biblical valley. This stands separately from chapter 2 where ‘God’s’ army attacks. Therefore, chapter 2 is not ‘the end of the world’.
I believe it is the soon to be arriving ‘Chastisement’ prophesied by many people over the last few centuries.

Let’s compare Joel 2 to other biblical prophesied military attacks such as Jeremiah 1 and 4, along with Ezekiel 26 and 38.
1. The armies and where they are geographically from are named.
2. They are described in specific military terms such as having swords and chariots, so are very easily visualized.

Now let’s look at Joel 2’s bizarre and abstract army.
Joel 2,2
“…Their like has not been from of old, nor will it be after them, even to the years of distant generations”

So, there never has been, and never again will there be anything like this attack.

Joel 2,4
“…appearance of horses”
Joel 2,5
“…as with the rumble of chariots they leap upon the mountain tops”

Notice that everything can only be described to be ‘like’ something else.

Joel 2,7 and 8
“Like warriors they run, like soldiers they scale the wall; They advance, each in his own lane, without swerving from their paths. No one crowds another, each advances in his own track; Though they fall into the ditches, they are not checked.”
Joel 2,10
“Before them the earth trembles, the heavens shake; The sun and the moon are darkened, and the stars withhold their brightness.”

This is no ordinary army! It appears to be of cosmic origin.
Now I suggest to you that verses 7 and 8 could be a pre-scientific man describing the sine wave motion of electromagnetic energy of a stellar or galactic origin.
BTW, a galactic energy burst (SGR 1806-20), one of the largest ever seen passed by the earth, about the same time as the Indonesian 9.0 earthquake and resulting tsunami. The odds of no cause-effect are slim.
Now I also suggest the possibility of a cometary storm being involved utilizing chapter 1’s ‘Cosmic Locusts’, and based on the way God sees the need to ‘destroy’ his army (Joel 2,20). (See also Rev 12,4 where one third of the stars are thrown down upon the earth.)

Negative. I had the prophecy, and then was shocked after being directed to the book of Joel for the first time at age 47.



One week after I originally posted this article (under Stories), a Chastisement comet candidate news story came along

Comet Bernardinelli/Bernstein will make closest approach in 2031
It has one of the largest known comet nuclei at 75 miles wide
If it fragments, which comets tend to do at their closest point to the sun, the fragments could reach us in the Chastisement predicted year of 2033
Its ominous name meaning is “burn bravely, burn stone”
It has already undergone a brightening in 2019
Its last visit was 3 million years ago at about the time of the first known ice age
At closest approach it will be between the orbits of Saturn and Uranus
It will then cross the ecliptic and be in Virgo in 2033
It would then be in a position to be the dragon at the woman’s feet and throw down one third of the stars in the sky

One week later comes this news item

A scientific panel has recommended that NASA put a HIGH priority on sending a probe to Uranus

Here are the salient features
1. Uranus is the Greek god of the sky
2. Its axis and rings are uniquely sideways (comet B/B orbit is also perpendicular to the ecliptic)
3. Its atmosphere leaks into space
4. It occasionally bursts gamma rays

Could the probe’s actual purpose be to also investigate the comet?
Could the comet perturb Uranus?
Could Uranus perturb the comet?
Or both?
