Blind Justice, the symbol of our system of laws, is a whore for sale to anyone having money enough to buy her. Neither fair nor blind to ambition, she has made a mockery of her very name. Only the famous or very wealthy get anything approaching fair and just treatment - and that's for a price. If you are beautiful, live in the right neighbourhood, and your fair Isaac credit ratings are high, you can be assured of being taken seriously.

Where does that leave the other 55% of this nation? In serious trouble. Many of us swallow everything from petty larceny to rape, and never report it. Why? Because.. we know it will do no good, or the treatment we recieve from the police, courts and media are just not worth the price. WE instead live under the "justice deferred" concept. Simply put.. it ain't a happening thing.

An ordinary working class medical assistant can be stalked, harassed and threatened, yet nothing will be done, unless she gets hurt or murdered. Yet Catherine Zeta-Jones recieves letters from an unbalanced fan, and the police and media play it to the hilt. Why is she entitled to a different set of values and treatment, then the working class woman? Money. How is this just? She has the wherewithal to purchase security guards and systems, get top notch medical and legal help, and yet--the working class woman, who has none of those things is ignored.

The Federal statutes on internet crime state, according to what was explained to me, there must be $5000. worth of damage done, minimum, before they will get involved. Pain, suffering, loss of work, none of that counts. The loss of the formula for Coca Cola has more value than a burgeoning writers assets. Being a victim of serious crime is an eye opening and sober education in painful truths about our judicial system. One learns quickly enough that on top of being victimized, you must advocate for yourself, and often that is just not enough.

Victims Assistance cannot help anyone unless they have an open case, which means, fighting tooth and nail to get one opened. Nothing is more hurtful to someone being harmed then to be told, they don't quite merit opening a case for. Unless you attract some dedicated officer or know someone who is politically connected enough to exert pressure, you are effectively deferred from obtaining justice.

Thanks to media oversensationalising certain cases, and political gaming by law enforcement "brass", even the most compassionate attorney's and police officers are often compelled to turn people away, or face disciplinary measures from on high. Young attorney's start out idealistic in most cases, but quickly learn, that in order to justify the hard years of schooling and sacrifice, they must make "big" cases, or partner with big firms. In the process they get educated on the "realties" If the perpetrator has no assets, then there is no profit, ergo - no case.

Our judicial system needs some major overhauling to help bring it back to a place where everyone is entitled to fair and equal treatment under the laws of this land. A line from a Toby Keith song "Justice is the one thing we should always find", should be alive in the United States of America. Until it is, many people suffer needlessly without redress, due to the harlots that we allow to rape our justice system. We must start becoming advocates for positive change, or I fear this nation will crumble from within, due to indifference and neglect.
