Working Against the Odds To Connect With the Right Agent

Finding the right literary agent can be as hard as shoveling snow in a blizzard if you don’t work it right. Unfortunately, it takes more effort than you would normally think is necessary.

This is mainly due to the rising number of authors these days that are all on a quest to write the BIG ONE and get it published ASAP. It ain’t that simple, if you’ll excuse the slang.

Sometime in the late eighties, the cost of personal computers dropped, sales went up and everyone with more than a grade school education decided to write a novel. Submissions to agents went through the roof, forcing them to adopt more stringent policies so that only a lucky few made the cut.

Working smart will put you in the running as one of those lucky few.

After all, once that book is finished, you’re not. In fact, you’re not even halfway through the process if you don’t connect with the right literary agent. Mutual respect is one of the most important facets in any relationship. If that connection isn’t based on mutual respect that book of yours will still be collecting dust when you’re old enough for an assisted living facility.

To get that respect, you first have to give it. You have to be a pro.

As a published author and former agent, I’m here to give you valuable tips on the do’s and don't's of submitting that will make any agent sit up and realize he’s dealing with a pro.

And please! No submissions until you read the contents of this text in its entirety.
