Is it just me?

Since 911 most people have become paranoid about the enemy attacking us on our home front. About a year or two after that awful tragedy, we relaxed. Then the paranoia sprang up again. Especially now that we have Homeland Security in every state in the union.
Whenever I travel from Vermont to New York on 91, halfway through the state the police who guard the border between the US and Canada have set up shop in the form of a roadblock. They ask each and everyone--driver and passengers--
what their nationality is. The first time this happened I stuttered like crazy fearing I was about to be locked up in a federal pennitentiary. I finally blurted, "US," and they let me go. But the curiosity over why they're at the midway point in Vermont and not at the Canadian border has made me uneasy;paranoid.
I refuse mail that arrives with no outer return label. Packages especially, fearing it's a random bomb from a terrorist. Hey, the mad bomber chose victims at random so it's not so unlikely terrorists will do the same. I'm also afraid of fruits and vegetables that come from foreign countries. Some of these imports come from countries we're not always friendly with. I won't buy them.
Right now, the biggest internal disturbance is caused by my private message board. I don't know if it's a joke or what, but some people keep leaving messages in a foreign language. Sometimes it's Hebrew, other times it's either Eurasian or some other language that could easily be from a country we're at war with.
I remember hearing stories that during World War II, Nazi spies left messages for their American counterparts in the form of Ads in the NY Times and other newspapers. So why is this idea so outlandish? We're not at war with any Jewish countries, or Eurasian countries, so that's not a threat. But what if it's Muslim writing? They're supposed to be our biggest enemies according to news reports. I don't really know, but this is what I hear every night. The Muslims in Iraq are causing many deaths to our people. What if these are messages sent to their allies here in America, terrorist cells who've entered the country through fraudelent means? I've thought of having a government agent look at the board, but I feel silly. I feel as though hysteria is settling in my mind so I keep deleting the messages.
It's not me that I'm so worried about. It's the generations coming after me that I want to protect. They're our future and if the threat is ever widening, we need to be more alert. Yes, I guess I'm paranoid.
One thing I'm not doing is trying to stir up hatred for any one group of people. There are Muslims in this country who've been here for years and they're decent citizens. We don't need that sort of racial hysteria. So we need to leave these people alone. They're not the threat.
We certainly don't want to return to the government's thinking during World War II when American/Japanese citizens were interred in prison camps. That's a disgrace we can never repeat.
I know the expression is Japanese/American, but I'm trying to stress the point that they were helping the US in the war against our enemies.
