Have you seen the word Christmas in any of the Christmas ads?

I watched a little bit angrily the other night a news item in regard to the use of the term “Merry Christmas” in advertising. It seems the corporate sales world and big business as well as advertising corporations, decided that we should not as Christians be able to see the the C word in our advertisements. We can Celebrate our holiday as we deem appropriate but not publicly. They, see above, feel that it might offend certain other religious or anti religious groups to use the word “Christ” other then as a blasphemy or within the walls of a church.

First of all I am not a religious person as such and usually speak out against most organized religions, that being said I think all peoples should have the right to enjoy the religion of there choice or no religion if that is there way. The ban on prayers in school I can see some validity in that, but not hearing Merry Christmas in media ads is ridiculous. I wonder if the sentiments of decisions such as these do more in the long run to irritate prejudices and biases that are finally after centuries allowing the freedoms that have drawn so many peoples to the shores of the United States and Canada.

It keeps amazing me how far we will allow the far right wingers to push us. Here in Canada we were forced to change the rules that anyone entering a legion (veteran’s hall) must remove their hat as a sign of respect for fallen Canadian soldiers. Our armed forces changed their policies so natives could wear their braids and other races could wear their turbans and ceremonial daggers. I may not always agree with these decisions but I have no problem with trying to accommodate peoples of all nations but we as Christians should be given the same considerations and freedoms.

Remember, we are, if I am not mistaken,  the majority so why must we sacrifice our traditions and values. I opt to celebrate the birth of our Christ and address my fellow man with Merry Christmas. If people don't like it they better be prepared for a fight to the death to try and tell me I don't have the right to say...
