Isn't it always great when you finally complete something that you thought you'd never finish.

I wrote a news item not to long ago about the gestation period of a book taking at least three years. Well I think that is why when you finish writing one it is such a blessed relief. There are still hours of editing, looking for a publisher,
re-editing to publishers taste, contracts, false release dates etc. ahead of you but the creation is there in front of you and you know it is good.

So last night I was quite happy as I wrote the closing lines to a book I started, while lying in a hospital bed after heart surgery over two years ago. As I always write freestyle in the first person and as I usually only have a vague idea where it is going. Finishing was like reading the last page of a novel I was really enjoying and not one I was writing myself. I'm sure there are a lot of you out there who are reading this will know exactly what I am talking about.

I know the "writing" schools preach outlines, storylines, timelines, character sketches before hand etc, etc, etc. but I would neverr write a story that I already knew everything about. It wouldn't be fun to me. I am floating on air this morning because it is finished and even if it is never published it will live on forever on my copy and in my heart.

So folks I just wanted to share that with all and any strugling writers out there who are trying so hard to write their first production keep plugging you will find the way to the last line if you keep going.
