Today, Tyler R. Tichelaar of Reader Views is pleased to interview Doug and Jackie Christie, who are here to discuss their new book “Luv-Pons!: A Fun Variety Love & Romance Guide for Couples.”

Doug Christie is a former NBA basketball player and his wife Jackie Christie is a fashion designer. Their strong marriage has made them the most talked about couple in sports history, especially after the success of their book “No Ordinary Love” (2007). Today, they are joining us to talk about their newest book “Luv-Pons!” Doug and Jackie Christie have been happily married for eighteen years.

Tyler:  Hi, Doug and Jackie. Welcome back. First of all, what made you come up with the idea for this book?

Jackie:  We are always being asked for advice and ideas by other couples who are looking to have more intimacy in their relationships and who want ways to reignite the passion they once shared. Because Doug and I have been married for so long and have remained happy and monogamous as well as committed to our marriage, other couples want answers.

Tyler:  Why did you feel the need to write a romance guide for couples?

Jackie:  Couples want to know our secrets so we decided to write “Luv-Pons!: A Fun Variety Love & Romance Guide for Couples” so couples could see how we keep our marriage strong and the passion and excitement burning in our marriage and they can do the same by using our easy to follow ideas, suggestions, and secrets that we share in our book.

Doug:  We wanted to share with others the beauty of being in a wonderful fun fulfilling and exciting relationship and also to give all couples the answers they want to help them get the passion and fire back into their relationship.

Tyler:  Will you explain your book’s title to our audience? What exactly are “Luv-Pons”?

Doug:  Yes. The word “Luv-Pons” means love and coupons (luv-pons) for short as there is a lot of love and romance coupon books out there on the market, but not an actual book with the coupons inside, along with other goodies. We wanted to give couples a variety book with all the right ingredients for a loving lasting relationship!

Tyler:  Will you give us an example of one of these “Luv-Pons”?

Doug: Yes. An example of a Luv-Pon would be:

Tyler:  I like that you included “Fun” and “Variety” in the title. Why do you think those ingredients important for romance?

Jackie:  Every relationship needs to have the fun aspect for excitement, fulfillment, and contentment, and variety is good because it pushes away boredom, and lastly with love being the main ingredient, a couple’s relationship will stay fresh.

Tyler:  You are well-known for being “No Ordinary Couple” and if I recall correctly from our last interview, you have received criticism from the media for your devotion to each other when so many other famous and athletic couples have continually had problems and broken up?

Jackie:  Yes, Tyler, that’s very true . Nowadays with the five-minute marriages and ten-second divorces being the main topic in the media, its very unfortunate that couples are not staying together. Being in a committed loving and monogamous relationship or marriage is very special, and wonderful. There is a genuine feeling of care, concern and loyalty, as well as Love.

When two people share oneness in such a way, we realize how special it is. When we write our books we strive to inspire, empower, and educate others, on finding the true meaning of INFINITE LOVE and commitment.

And we welcome any media scrutiny on this topic as we have shown time and time again that being in a honest, committed, and monogamous relationship is a beautiful thing.

Tyler:  Doug and Jackie, what do you think is the biggest deterrent for healthy romantic relationships in our culture today, and how can your book help people deal with that situation?

Jackie:  The biggest difference in our culture today with the lack of romance in relationships is because nowadays with the electronic age and Internet, and of course with the fast paced lifestyle of the twenty-first century we all live, in we are always on the go; the days of families sitting down together for a meal at dinner time is all but obsolete so imagine what it’s like in relationships or marriages where both people work or have businesses. Time is one problem and the other is the diluted feeling of closeness shared in society today. We feel our book will help all couples not only to reignite the passion missing in their relationships but our book shows couples how to keep the fire burning! A lot of books out there offer advice, but when people can learn or discover new information and solutions in a fun inviting and enlightening way it’s much better!

Tyler:  Tell us about some of the variety of ideas in “Luv-Pons”—I understand there’s poetry, wine suggestions, and a multitude of other possibilities explored.

Doug:  In “LUV-PONS” we offer sexy recipes for couples to make together, as this is a very intimate act in and of itself and as the old saying goes, the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach!:) We also share games for two to play together, and we offer information on why sometimes problems arise in a relationship and how to fix them. We, of course, offer the LUV-PONS themselves as well which is everyone’s ticket to his or her mates’ love and affection. We also offer poetry, which is truly the language of Love! And we share other couples’ journeys and solutions on how they found love and continue to keep their fire burning in their own relationships!

Tyler:  Would you be willing to share one of those sexy recipes with us, or at least give us a hint of one?

Doug:  Oh yes! I make a very special salmon for my wife that we named “Doug’s sexy salmon and rice.” The complete recipe is in the book, but I will say that we have a nice bottle of wine, with it (suggestions of great wines are also in the book) and the evenings when we have this dish are always special.

Tyler:  What kinds of responses have you had to the book so far?

Doug:  WOW! We have received wonderful responses from so many people they absolutely love “LUV-PONS.” When they order it, they pick up a few extra copies for friends and other couples they know.

Jackie:  That’s right, Tyler. They have commented that this little book packs fantastic information, advice, and just plain great stuff! They say the LUV-PONS are their favorites and they can’t wait to share them with their mates!

Tyler:  Do you have plans to write any more books, or do you have other future projects in mind?

Jackie:  Yes, we do plan to write another book in the future, as well as doing a TV show together soon.

Tyler:  What kind of TV show?

Jackie:  We will be doing a fun, sexy, and empowering relationship show with great advice and more!
