Subject: Inspired By Tried By Fire
Hey Jodi,
I know you don't know me but I am married to Mike Johnson....he is the grandson of L.V. and Frances Rudder that live beside your mom. I got your email address from Lee.
I am emailing you to let you know how inspired I was at your book “Tried by Fire”. Mike and I married in March of 1989 and my sister-in-law graduated with Christy so I knew of her illness but never got the chance to meet her.
The faith that you and Christy had was just incredible. I got the book last week at K & A before the ballgame and started reading it and I was finished by late Sat. night. It was not that I liked what I was reading but your faith has helped me soo much. I know my problems here on earth does not compare to losing a child but I have been battling depression along with everyday struggles such as finances, raising teenagers, etc.
My mom battled mouth cancer for two years and to make a long story short, we were told last Dec. that it had got into the lymph nodes and into the jaw bone but when they got in there to remove the jaw bone, there was NO SIGNS of cancer...PRAISE GOD. I had faith but was scared litterally.
I could not imagine what you went through but the words of that book sure did express the faith that you all had but also the human side of wanting to escape it all. We do not know why we have to endure things here on earth but I am thankful that I have a savior that I will one day spend eternity with.
Always remember you, Christy and “Tried by Fire” is and always will be an inspiration to me.

Dear Martha “Jodi”,
I read your book “Tried by Fire” in only 3 days. I cried everytime I read it. Life can be so verry hard at times. Only God knows His reasoning.
I thought you did an excellent job on the book. I could tell it came from your heart. Then, I had to find out from Ellen Bowman where Christy was
buried, and I went and visited with Christy awhile at her grave.
