TAKE THAT WORD AND SHOVE IT…
The word I aim to shove is OFFEND. Collins English Dictionary defines it in several ways:
- To transgress the moral or divine law
- To violate the a law or rule
- To cause difficulty, discomfort, or injury
- To cause to feel vexation or resentment
With laws and rules, I have no cause for dispute, for it is important that they be upheld. But when it comes to offending self, there I draw the line, for Psalm 119:165 (KJ) clearly states:
Great peace have they which love thy law; and nothing shall offend them.
My humble advice to those who feel they must offend is: question why you do. Then ask yourself, “What do I gain when I offend?”
To those who feel offended, take it not as a personal affront, but as an opportunity to practice humility. Respond to the offender with calm concern. Ask them what grieves their troubled soul and is there some way you can help stem the flow; for you see, they are merely taking out their frustrations on you. Offending is their way of asking for help.
So, let’s take that word and shove it…from our vocabulary, I mean, particularly when it comes to self. Let it not spoil our peace!
