You've lost something and don't know where to find it. You search and search, and when at last you've given up, you find yourself heading directly to a drawer, or box, or a corner of the house, and ... Hooray!

Has This Ever Happened To You?

You’ve lost your keys and don’t know where you’ve put them

“Dear Lord,” you mutter, “where are those keys?”

You continue to search without success

Then when at last you take a break

From frantic, useless search

To still your mind before

You search again

When all of a sudden,

You rise with a start!

Heading straight for a drawer

And low and behold you find the keys

But that’s not where you keep them!

Has this or something similar ever happened to you?

It has to me, repeatedly, so much so that now

When I cannot find a thing, let’s say a chain

I simply say: “Dear Father, You know everything

If my chain is in this house,

Please lead me to it.

Thank you.”

Then, I forget about the matter altogether

And without fail, within hours

Or perhaps a day or two

Sometimes longer

On impulse I find myself opening

A purse, a drawer, a box

Or going to some inconspicuous corner of the house

And there, staring at me

Is the chain I couldn’t find!

So, to summarize, there is the pattern to follow when you need to find that which you have lost: 

1)      Be specific in what you ask when you pray.

2)      Completely release your request; do not continue your search.

3)      Allow your mind to be still in order to receive the prompting of the Holy Spirit.

[Here’s what can happen when you try to outsmart God. The other day, I wanted to find a red short-sleeved “dressy” top. Just before entering the Mall, I asked the Lord to lead me directly to the store that had this item. He did. But I wasn’t satisfied. I spent the next forty-five minutes combing through the entire Mall, just in case there was something better. Guess what? I returned to the first store and bought the top—the perfect top! I could have saved myself a lot of time…and a Tylenol!]
