Unforgiveness
2 Corinthians 2:10 - 11 (NKJV)
“10Now whom you forgive anything, I also forgive. For if indeed I have forgiven anything, I have forgiven that one for your sakes in the presence of Christ, 11lest Satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices.”
The devil will take advantage of anyone who refuses to forgive someone. Holding on to unforgiveness makes us vulnerable to his attacks. The devil uses the unforgiveness that we have for others as a pathway to his right to work in our lives. We cannot receive forgiveness from God unless we forgive others. By not holding on to unforgiveness, some of the worries and pressure of life are gone. When you retain unforgiveness you are in bondage. Only when you get rid of the unforgiveness in your life that you can have that genuine peace that you get from only Jesus. When you deal with your unforgiveness God's blessings are more abundant and your struggles in life are much easier. You will have a peace that you didn't have before.
Mark 11:25-26 (NKJV)
“And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses.”
Unforgiveness when not dealt with become things like: bitterness * resentment * hatred * violence * temper * anger * retaliation * distrust * envy * suspicion * jealousy * rebellion * high blood pressure * ulcers * migraine headaches * depression.
We must never allow any unforgiveness to enter into our minds. No matter what anybody has said or done to you, never allow it to affect your daily walk with Christ. By holding on to unforgiveness we will be unable to receive our own forgiveness from God. We need to be free of unforgiveness in order to be able to overcome the trials of Satan. Sometimes it seems that it is too hard to forgive someone for hurting you. However, it's not you that is actually doing the forgiving but the Holy Spirit in you. That is if we truly belong to God.
The most frequently asked question from most Christians is why hasn't God answered my prayer? We seem to have everything in order. We pray, wait upon the Lord, and still no answer to our prayer. It could be that we have unforgiveness buried deep in our subconscious. The Holy Spirit will answer that question for you. All you need to do is to ask the Holy Spirit. He will reveal your area of unforgiveness. When we accepted Jesus is when we totally surrendered our life to God. That being the case He took all of our infirmities, all of our feelings, and all of our emotions.
How can we harbor unforgiveness if we have totally surrendered to God? Because it is in the flesh that unforgiveness dwells. That's why Scriptures teaches us to stay in the spirit and not fulfill the lusts of the flesh. As Christians we should never harbor unforgiveness. If we do, it’s our own choice, by allowing the flesh to rule over us. Becoming a Christian is a process. Love doesn’t always come easily, and we must work at it. You cannot have unforgiveness and love at the same time. Martin Luther King used to say, “Free at last” “Free at last”. When we gave ourselves completely over to Christ and rid ourselves of unforgiveness we truly are ‘free at last”.
Matthew 6:14-15 (NKJV)
“For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”
