A review of a collection of poetry by Robert K. Johnson

Frank Mortimer, a journalist, collected these poems penned by Robert K. Johnson. He writes, " For me, they all relate to that tragic day ( Sept. 11) ...but also offer hope." The poem, TO MY FATHER freezes a moment in time for the poet when he unexpectedly encounters his father in a train station, and in wordless communication a relationship is defined, " As though
you had expected us/ to meet, your eyes showed no surprise./ nor was there any need for me/ to say, " I have been waiting for you."/ all we did was gaze at each other, silently./Then you sat down/ beside me. And we waited, together,/ for the train that would take us home." I think after the tragedy of Sept. 11, we can appreciate these poems for their insight into fleeting time, our loved ones, and what we should hold on to for dear life.
