A New England Journal of Poetry.

PINE ISLAND JOURNAL reminds me a great deal of its Southern, Mass. sister THE AUROREAN. Pine Island, which is based in Western, Mass., has poetry that is infused with strong nature imagery, and is written in a simple and accessible style. Joy K. Stead, in her poem entitled: WHIRL WIND, captures the graceful dance of snow on a Winter's day: " snow swirls/ tornado-like/ a beautiful egg white/.../ Whipped upward, then lightly falling/ a blinding whiteness/ numbing the senses." In this issue I noticed work by Ibbetson Updaters Kelley White, and Judy Snow. Pine Island is always open to submissions from New England writers.--Doug Holder/ Ibbetson Update.
