Let Us Overcome
I am not bragging but I must share a little of my life. My childhood was nothing spectacular. I went to school, played ball in the summer, football in the winter. I like to sled, swim, all the things kids do.
When I got out of school I went into the service. That did not work for me. I was discharged 5 months and seventeen days later with a physical problem.
After about two and a half years of operations and time spent in a wheel chair, I was on my feet again. What a wonder joy that was. With the help of the State Department of Rehabilitation Center, I took training and became a radio announcer. This was the greatest time of my life. Alas, it did not pay enough for someone who had fallen in love and out of love comes children and I wanted to provide for them.
I left radio and went into Insurance. It’s a high stress job and my doctors tell me that is what caused a silent heart attack at the age of forty.
After that, it was hard to find an employer who would take on a heart patient and I was wearing myself out trying. The doctors promoted an early retirement for me to save me from myself.
I spent some time feeling sorry for myself but I could see that was getting me nowhere. My wife got a job as an RN at a local chronic hospital. I went there as a volunteer. This was good therapy for me. I could not feel sorry for myself when I saw others who kept upbeat personalities when they faced more debilitating sickness and physical problems than I had. I became interested in what I was doing.
My health has not been super and I found myself having to stop the volunteer work because I was spending too much time in the hospital, myself.
I turned to working on the computer and writing is a form of creativity and I like that. That is where my first novel came from. I am currently working on novel number two.
All in all, though my life never allowed me to reach the expectations I had hoped for, I still feel that my creator knew what he was doing. I am stronger in faith today and I have learned that not all dreams are to be fulfilled in this life. The best are yet to come.
Maybe that is why the characters in my book find themselves looking back on their lives of yesterday and literally living in the future. The story is about two people from the old west who find themselves in the twentieth century.
It’s a ghost story but it is also a love story. It is a story of good over evil. I think my life is like that. If you read the book you will see that God’s love is forever. This book is fiction but it tells a truth.
Sincerely,
Lew Duffey
