1620: A group of 102 Pilgrims, most of them religious dissenters known as Separatists, depart for North America from Plymouth, England, aboard the Mayflower.

On September 16, 1620 a group of pilgrims came to America aboard the Mayflower.  Most of these were religious dissenters known as separatists.  They headed for North America from Plymouth, England.  I suppose that is why it is said they landed on Plymouth Rock. 

These people came looking for a better life.  They desired the freedom to live without high taxes with no representation.

Today we face a time where taxes are eating most of us up and although we still have the right to vote, we know not whether I vote counts or not.

Please do not misunderstand.  I am writing this on the computer.  However, I must admit it troubles me that the state I live in uses computers with no paper trail to support whether I voted or not.

I also am troubled that our government is infiltrated with those who promise great things only to concentrate on their own wants once they are voted into office. 

If this keeps up, America will not stand long.  We must all get back to the reason our forefathers came here.  We must be willing to stand up for equality for all men.

I will admit our forefathers had not perfected that equality thing even as they founded our nation.  This is our challenge.  We must be Americans.  We must be willing to challenge our conscience and ask ourselves if we are really trying to consider the needs of the masses.  If we are not we will fall.  That will be a sad day.

It was today in history that those pilgrims came to America hoping for a better life.  Since that time others have come and joined in the American way of life.  This is why we grew.  This is why up until just a short while ago the whole world looked up to us.

I am afraid we are losing them.  Moreover, I am afraid we are losing ourselves to selfishness, violence, bigotry, hatreds of all kinds.

We are hearing a lot about the illegal aliens in our country.  I do not blame these people for seeking a better life.  We all come from families that did the same.  I do challenge our government to stop playing politics and start taking a serious look at our problems of all kinds.

When Election Day comes do some research.  It is hard to believe in some of our politicians who say what they think we want to hear so let’s study them.  The internet is a wonder resource.  Then when Election Day comes…… VOTE!  If we do not, we have no right to complain.
