Tomorrow we vote. Many won't bother. It is sad to see our country forget how we came to be. It is sad to thumb our noses at our founding fathers by not realizing that this form of government does not come easy. You have to want it. That desire is what has made us the best country on the planet. Ask yourself, do you want to see it die? Ask yourself something else. Are you the person you should be. I have questioned myself an awful lot. Let us try to fill the void which is eating away at our very society.

No rhyme this time:

Oops! I guess I just did. I want to write about us. When I say us I mean U.S. as in U.S.A. Our nation is in the middle of some trying times right now. There is a war that keeps going in Iraq. We have families here at home who will never see some of their sons again, at least not until they see them in Heaven.

We have debates over the immigration problem here at home as well as homeland security and to top it all off there are those who do not believe God has a place in our life anymore. The fact is that they have simply stopped believing.

This is especially sad because our nation now has a void. That void is being filled with drug abuse, hatred for different reasons. Some of those reasons are as follows. He does not go to the same church and worship in the same way as I do so that means he is going to Hell.

Let’s explore empty spaces, otherwise known as a void. Have you ever been in an old house that has not been lived in for a long time? The furniture has been removed; there are no curtains on the windows and no carpet on the floor. Over a period of time the rooms will fill up with something. Dust and dirt, grime and spider webs, mouse droppings and who knows what else.

When we empty our lives we leave a void and it will not stay empty. It will simply fill up with anything that is looking for a place to stay. In our spiritual lives, that something can be hatred, depression, anger and a feeling of emptiness which will not give us peace of mind.

The reason I am writing this is simple. I truly feel that we need faith. We need to know that our lives are not just a temporary flash which will burn itself out and leave nothing behind once we are gone.

If we do not culture a forgiving love we do ourselves an injustice. If we do not will ourselves to love, hate pushes in and it can be relentless. The real horror for each of us is hate probably hurts the one doing the hating more than anyone else.

If you are a Democrat, do not hate Republicans. We are all Americans. If you are a Republican, do not hate Democrats for the same reason.

If you are a Presbyterian, do not hate Catholics. Catholics don’t hate Evangelicals. And that works both ways. Love will overcome. Do yourself a favor and learn to culture love, forgiveness and bring joy into any life you can. You will be making yourself a better person.
