Here is something for all us patriots to consider. Look up the word in the dictionary and it will tell you patriotism is “love of country; devotion to the welfaire of one’s country; the virtues and actions of a patriot; the passion which inspires one to serve one’s country.”

It will go on to say, “Concern for the common good of one’s political community.”  You may be asking why did you call this article “Wearing Blinders?” 

Let us look up blind in the dictionary.  “Failing to see, acknowledge, perceive; “Any device intended to conceal or hide.”  Another way to put it is to keep out light.  That is what window blinds are for.

How does this make any sense?  If we truly are patriotes.  We love our country.  If we love our country we do not stand by and allow our morales to deteriorate.  If we love our country we do not stand by and say or do nothing because it may cause someone to question our patriotism.  In other words; we work to make it better.  We strive to keep it strong and pure.  We do not back away from the challenge of finding ways to improve it.

Some may say this is unpatriotic.  How can you question your country, your government and your commutity if you truly love it?  The answer is this and it is incontrovertible.  You owe it to those you love to help them stand when they have fallen.  You owe it to them to keep them from falling when you see it is coming.  You owe your country this same patriotic duty.

Blind and patriotism is a complete lack of patriotism.  They simply do not work together.  You have heard the expressions, I am sure, “and Nero fiddled while Rome burned.” 

Let us all sound out with voices joined together in unison, be you Democrat or Republican or Independent.  Let us be heard and send a message to our country’s leaders that we put them there because they made a promise to God and Country.  They took an oath.  They have become our servants.  They never fail to grant themselves a pay raise as soon as they get into office.  They will get that paycheck long after they get out of office.  This is one reason they seem to not care as much about Social Security or the lack of jobs for the average American.  They seem to be able to trick us into voting for them and that is all we seem to be to many of them.

Once they have achieved this, the pandor to Giant businesses and the very rich.  It does give one the opinion that they are simply trying to get a piece of the pie.

Democracy can only stand until someone figures out how to use it for his own selfish purposes.  This day has come.  Our fall may not be a quick one but it will be a painful one for us, our children and generations to come.

Write to the President, your congressman or woman.  Write to the news media.  They are a part of conglimerant America, too.  If our voices indeed do fall on deaf ears that will be their burden to carry.  We need to remind our government that America was based on the principle of equality.  Our government should be “of the people; by the people; for the people.

Let us all take the blinders off and see what we face in this age.
