When you read the bible the first thing you see after the creation of all that is; strikes me as rather disappointing. I am disappointed but I cannot judge. The story of Adam and Eve has been a source of debate. Some say, “Oh no, it did not happen that way.” We all came from evolution. It started as an accident of some kind and out of that came life.”
Still others say, “It is only a parable; a story.” I wasn’t there so I don’t know for sure and much of God’s teachings were in fact parables. This is not the important thing. The important thing is how much did we learn from the mistakes of our forefathers. It does not seem we have learned much.
Let’s look at Adam and Eve. God said, “Don’t eat that fruit,” and suddenly that was the very thing they wanted. Then man continued to exercise his free will throughout history.
Cain slew Abel. We have fought wars in the name of religion. People rob, steal, kill and rape. This is not in the name of God. It is simply because they have not yet learned to exercise ‘free will’ in a creative way. The question arises… Will we ever learn this secret? Will we ever realize that wars are only destruction? Will we ever learn that abusing others is actually abusing ourselves for all of eternity?
When you read the Bible there are quotes that come to mind more today than ever. Jesus once said, “In the latter days there will be a falling away from the truth.” He also told us of wars and rumors of wars. He said things like, “Nation shall rise up against nation.”
He knew us too well. He realized that we were put here on this Earth because we truly had not mastered the art of love. We had not truly learned to be constructive unless we had a selfish reason. That in itself seems to be an oxymoron to me. If it is for a selfish reason how constructive can it be?
There are those who have said if there be a God how can he let the horrors that go on daily in this world happen? Does he do this? Or do we?
This is just food for thought.
