I think we all wonder sometimes, "What has become of our true American way of life?" This is one point of view. I believe we must find ourselves again. It is time for the USA to rebuild.

I watched a program on the news about a movie about World War II.  The man said it was the last necessary war.  I hate war.  I hate killing and I hate the fact that we too often must resort to this.  Unfortunately, it is with us always.

One thing the man said was that the people who fought in that war carried a burden with them for the rest of their lives.  They went through that war with the hope of coming out alive.  Unfortunately they lost many comrades and they did things that many of them will tell you they wished they had not done. 

A positive point made by the man that produced the movie was the fact that during World War II Americans were ready, willing and able to make sacrifices.  We learned to live on less.  We learned to give more of ourselves.  Maybe this is partly because we knew this war was not our call.  The Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor and they would not stop at that.  Any war we have been involved in since has been our call. 

It is most likely that the division in our country and the lack of will to sacrifice is because most of us think this war in Iraq could have and should have been avoided.  It has certainly not brought happiness to the people of Iraq.  It has cost so many of our young men’s lives and there seems to be no way out other than to admit that we should not have gone in there to start with.  I won’t belabor that point anymore but I think the idea of Americans being able to make sacrifices for our country and our fellow Americans is a good idea.

I feel that today’s economy is based on selfishness.  Big business is an easy target so let us take a shot at them.  They are more concerned with their status on Wall Street than what the future may hold for their children and their grandchildren as well as generations to come.

Global warming is a real threat.  Someone once said this should even change our design on war.  Every bomb we drop dissipates into the atmosphere causing more of it to become polluted and adds to the problem.  Make no mistake; the polar caps are melting at a faster rate than the scientists first thought they would.

If we can sacrifice some of our luxuries and find better forms of energy, stop worrying about whether that car can go from zero to seventy miles an hour in thirty-seconds and start asking if it can be made to run more efficiently and cause less pollution it will give our children a better hope for a future.  Isn’t that what we should all be looking for?

We are the United States of America.  We have many problems and one of them is the fact that we are not United any more.  Now it’s Republicans versus Democrats; Black versus white; white versus black; and the list goes on.

What ever happened to the UNITED STATES?  Where have we gone wrong?  Maybe we have gone wrong because we no longer believe in ourselves.  We no longer value the true treasures of life.  We have become me or I.  There is no we!  Our nation can only stand if each of us takes his citizenship seriously.   That means let us not let loose of the very principals that once made us great.
