This is the most interesting thing I've read in a long time. The sad 

thing about it, you can see it coming.

To see it in print.  God help us, not that we deserve it.  How long do

About the time our original thirteen states adopted their new 

Constitution in 1787, Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor 

at the University of Edinburgh, had this to say about the fall of the

Athenian Republic some 2,000 years earlier:

'A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as 

a permanent form of government.'

Read on:

'A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters 

discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public

treasury.'

'From that moment on, the majority always vote for the candidates who

promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result 

that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy,

which is always followed by a dictatorship.'

'The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the 

beginning of history, has been about 200 years'

'During those 200 years, those nations always progressed through the 

following

sequence:

1. From bondage to spiritual faith;

2. From spiritual faith to great courage;

3. From courage to liberty;

4. From liberty to abundance;

5. From abundance to complacency;

6. From complacency to apathy;

7. From apathy to dependence;

8. From dependence back into bondage'

 Professor Joseph Olson of Hemline University School of Law, St. Paul, 

Minnesota, points out some interesting facts concerning the 2000

Presidential election:

Number of States won by:

    Gore: 19

    Bush: 29

Square miles of land won by:

    Gore: 580,000

    Bush: 2,427,000

Population of counties won by:

    Gore: 127 million

    Bush: 14 3 million

  Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by:

         Gore: 13.2

         Bush: 2.1

Professor Olson adds: In aggregate, the map of the territory Bush won 

was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of this great 

country.  Gore's territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in

Government-owned tenements and living off various forms of government 

Welfare...' Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between 

the 'complacency and apathy' phase of Professor Tyler's definite ion of

Democracy, with some forty percent of the nation's population already

having reached the 'governmental dependency' phase.

If Congress grants amnesty and citizenship to twenty million criminal 

invaders called illegal and they vote, then we can say goodbye to the

USA in fewer than five years.

A friend sent this email to me and I thought I would share it.  We have a challenge.  I have known of the statement made by Alexander Tyler.  I fear that the country is running out of moral steam.  We need to make some changes.  Technically we are not a democracy but a republic but let’s look at this.

The definition of a Democracy as I found it at an online dictionary describes as such  

Indirect democracy is delegative democracy. In delegative democracy, delegates are selected and expected to act on the wishes of the constituency. In this form of democracy the constituency may recall the delegate at any time. Representatives are expected only to transmit the decisions of electors, advance their views, and if they fail to do so they are subject to immediate representative recall with only minimal process.

Well, maybe I was wrong in that statement.  There are several kinds of democracies and our form of government is one of them.  I went back and looked up the definition of a Republic.  Here is its.

REPUBLIC, a nation in which, the thing governing and the thing governed being the same, there is only a permitted authority to enforce an optional obedience. In a republic, the foundation of public order is the ever lessening habit of submission inherited from ancestors who, being truly governed, submitted because they had to. There are as many kinds of republics as there are graduations between the despotism whence they came and the anarchy whither they lead.

We are the government so when we complain about the governments actions or lack of action we complain about our own apathy.   We need to search the moral character of each man; Republican or democrat and I should add each woman since we have one running.  Then we need to search our souls. 

I am a heart patient so affordable health care is important to me.  Let’s put the emphasis on affordable.  That means we do our part, too.  Mr. Tyler was speaking from history.  We still can change the future.  We need to remember that “United we stand, divided we fall.  We need to be one people.  Republican or democrat should not be a source of division.  It truly should simply be a point of view that keeps us forever reexamining ourselves as a people, government and country.  If we do not we do not have much of a future as a country.

I won’t go so far as to call those entering the illegally criminals but I do believe our government should have dealt with this problem long ago.  Did you know that during World II there were thousands of illegal aliens deported from the USA for security reasons?  Did you know that Dwight David Eisenhower sent thousands of them back in the 1950’s because they were taking jobs that our young men coming back from the Korean War needed?

The United States is not just our country but our responsibility.
