i just say "cocaine cowboys"
and from the chemical few, the cleaner it is, the less damage occurs, that's a fact
anyway, the whole system, worldwide, need to be fixed by us

Heroin addiction has the stage right now, and deservedly so, but the War on Drugs started by the Nixon Administration is what makes it so costly, violent and deadly ... this discussion should be part of any solution, and I highly recommend Johann Hari's great book, Chasing the Scream, for book readers and Dan Baum's fine article LEGALIZE IT ALL in the April 2016 issue of Harper's Magazine. A devilish windmill for all of us to battle, John. I think this is one war we can win. Thanks for caring.

I don't have a half hour to listen to a discussion, but I do have a thought about heroin.

We humans seem to be prone to addiction of all kinds. I'm currently addicted to caffeine (coffee) and chocolate, as well as, a daily glass of wine. I am told that if I stopped taking baclofen, an anti-spasm drug, I might have deadly seizures. Based on some other addictions that I've had, I seem to be able to drop an addiction without any aids, drugs or psychological crutches, like my father did quitting cigarettes.

I read recently where heroin is the number two killer drug behind alcohol. So, I believe that if alcohol is legal, all drugs should be legal and everyone should choose their addictions carefully. While I've known of several celebrities who died of a heroin overdose, this was probably more likely because of the illegal nature of the suppliers rather than the drug itself. I was surprised to hear that Ray Charles used heroin throughout most of his highly productive and long life.

I think we need to quit lengthy discussing old biblically induced taboos for various drugs and get down to letting the marketplace operate with free, but regulated, enterprise, and truthful education about what drugs do. Jails will empty out. Drug treatment programs will disappear, police forces can concentrate on crime, and the churches won't have so many converts.
