An Interview with the Author of 6 James Bond Thrillers
He was commissioned by Ian Fleming Publications to write 6 James Bond thrillers from 1996 to 2002. "One-to-One with John DeDakis" goes one-to-one with novelist Raymond Benson.
I have never read any of the Bond books, but based on the movies, Benson is probably one of those writers who is very good at writing to a successful formula and not writing outside of those boundaries or lines. For example, living the Bond lifestyle as described by Paul Kyriazi: something that most of us could not afford.
I find writing to boundaries like writing school assignments or the writing I did for my career for my supervisors--Too restricting. Glad that I'm free to write whatever I want and not trying to make a buck by doing what is required by a certain proven formula.
