What I missed most is the freedom of walking around in the wilderness without a care in the world. The accompanying feeling that nothing can ever go wrong. The feeling that I live in a dream world – which in fact I do, but tend to forget.
When I am relaxed like that in the wilderness, I remember the past and the future. Then I know that the plants, rocks, and animals are all conscious of my being. Only then am I aware of my immortal Self. One then has to switch off rational awareness and concentrate on the subconscious level of existence and being.
When I am not in the wilderness, I quickly start to forget and to doubt. There are too much noise and distractions amid people to focus effectively on the true Reality behind everything.
I then know that the universe is no accident, no random mess, dictated by a dice. It is a precisely planned and executed venture.
I then also know that we play a very important role in this huge project called life and that we can never die; we can only but learn. The physical body and nametags will change, but the Soul will survive forever.
I tend to forget.
PS:
I cannot imagine that someone can have a real spiritual experience in a city, or even a town. All the prophets I know about, Jesus, Mohammed, and Buddha, all had their mystical insights in the wilderness, far, far away from any people.
First come the fear, then the aloneness, eventually the acceptance, and only then the vision. Like the Big Bang, you first have to become a singularity before you can expand and touch everything around you.
