My computer crashed this week leaving me with nearly a dozen unfilled book orders and plenty of frustration.
In light of what I've been dealing with this week, the best tip I can offer is to be prepared for the unexpected. Things happen and while you can't be 100 percent totally prepared, you should always have some type of back up plan.
I am no techie and since my husband is out of town until Friday, I was totally lost when my computer crashed on Monday. I had book orders to fill and follow-up letters to send out for my upcoming media teleclass. I also had a seminar which was supposed to be held on Tuesday but was unable to contact anyone.
I think of all the would'ves, should'ves could'ves, but since I didn't do what I should've done, I had to re-direct my frustration.
So here are my tips on how to prepare when your computer world comes crashing down upon you::
1) Back-up your important files somewhere (on a CD or wherever) so you don't lose your important data. Replacing what you worked hard to build will be a nightmare otherwise.
2) Re-channel your frustrations. I was releasing negative energy and receiving it in return. Once I let that negativity go, my life seemed to fall back into a sense of order.
3) Find things you can do that don't require internet service. This has been a great opportunity for me to work on my podcasts, which had gotten a little backed up. I've also been working on my new book, of which a chapter will be dedicated to the Frustrations of a Baby Boomer Diva.
4) Meditation. This is an ideal time to meditate and listen to your inner spirit. I believe when things like this happen, it is for a reason and God is trying to get your attention and focus back on Him so you can be renewed and rejuvenated.
5) GET OVER IT! It happened. It's a lesson learned and you move on.
Once you're up and running again, re-establish contact with customers and explain the situation. I'm still in the process of doing that. I've probably lost a few contacts but the people who have come to know and trust me will understand and be supportive of my situation.
Enjoyed reading your enlightened list of how to deal with the unexpected. Learned my lesson a number of years ago. Now I always have two desktop computers, keeping them identical and have recently added a laptop alwo with the same programing material. Can be a very frustrating time. Interesting write, full of good advice.
These song lyrics and art are tales, tides and twinkling lights - tunes telling stories of warmth and sun, city and sand, paths that lead, and the coins we can keep in the Karma Bank. Spirit's been bypassed for sorrow, dreaming of a better tomorrow .
