This might be a way for a writer to work out thier details and help them picture the action. Plus it is way to let your mind wonder while not having to worry about putting it in words
When I'm not writing I enjoy model building. I have learned that I get ideas for scenes and indeed for other articles and books while doing this. I can't see why this would not work for any genre.
Artist use models, why can't we?
The picture is a model I did a year ago when I was having trouble with a part of my new novel OF ICE AND STEEL.
You don't have to go to great detail in your modeling. Heck why not use the kids GI Joes and Barbies. (I know there is a dirty joke in there somewhere!)
So if you can't think it out, try modeling it out.

Very cool model. I've had similar ideas. Where do you get your figures from? Your picture looks like Stalingrad.
