As I read the article in today's paper:  Mayoral candidates talk about their strategy for balance, I was disappointed and felt the candidates were so into 'appropriate theater' that their efforts and responses sounded 'overly trendy, comforting, and placating'.'  I felt they missed the meat of this serious question.  Lay it out candidates, what is YOUR STRATEGY for creating balance between growth and preservation of Palm Springs.  The dictionary (which is available to all through the internet) defines strategy as: a plan, method, or series of maneuvers or stratagems for obtaining a specific goal or result. Listening to people is part of the process and already in place . . . we see that happen at every council meeting.  What we don't see is  follow up on the courageous effort of the citizens (also known as the 'tax payers') who honorably purges their heart felt concerns and ideas at these meetings. 

Candidates, please start laying out plans, processes, and the way in which you will deal with these serious issues that Palm Springs is facing. . .   No more quaint, shallow, trendy superlatives.  We will get enough of that in your many, many mailers that will saturate our mail boxes just before election day.  For now, simply get real and lay out your plans. Bring us along, show us your courage and intellect through problem solving the issues that are facing us today.   

I was disappointed in the candidates responses to The Deserts Sun's question surrounding 'strategy of balance for Palm Springs.'  It's my belief they didn't answer the question, for to do so would require them to create a strategic plan of action.  Oh well, plenty of time for them to step up to the plate and hit one out of the park . . .  

As for now, I'm still sorting . . . .

UPDATE for my blog readers.   I have received seven out thirteen candidate responses.  In the coming weeks, I will share my thoughts regarding them.  A special thanks to the candidates that have responded.
