I'm passing this on for what it's worth. I can say, though, that this is actually possible, so don't scoff.

Exercise Program for Seniors:

Begin by standing on a comfortable surface where you have plenty of room at each side.
With a
5-lb potato sack in each hand, extend your arms straight out from your sides and
hold them there as long as you can. Try to reach a full minute, then relax. Each day, you'll find that you can hold this position for just a bit longer.  After a couple weeks, move up to 10 lb. potato sacks.  Then move up to 50lb. potato sacks.  Keep working until you reach the point where you can lift a 100 lb potato sack in each hand and hold your arms straight for a full minute!  (I am proud to say I have finally reached this level now!)

After you feel confident at this level, try the same exercise by putting a potato in each sack.

We have this woman on public television who sits in a chair and does exercises or the old and ill every day. It is as comical as Mr. Rogers used to be. Fortunately, I can do a mean sit up and touch my toes and push ups from a bed or chair if my seat belt is fastened to keep me in.

I 'walk' about 7 mph with full electric power, dodging ridges in the sidewalk.

Leland, you didn't specify how big each potato should be.

Yep, this is a most effective exercise program, even those who are at less "senior" stages could benefit from... if they actually add TWO potatoes to each sack when they reach the advanced level, LOL! Kind of reminds me of a meditation exercise, prescribed by a certain practitioner of asceticism: For the meditation about life's hardships and sufferances to be truly effective, it must be performed while kneeling on a bag with grains of corn inside. And so, his disciples would oblige, until one day, after one of the sessions, he approached one of them who looked particularly drawn, and praised him, "I see, my brother, that the meditation has been very effective for you; you mirror what a perfect inner perception of sufferance must be!" - "Yeah", grumbled the disciple, "and I sure would like to catch the son of a bitch who filled my sack with uncooked grains of corn!" - LOL!
