Disturbed by my adopted daughter's return to her birth roots...I had a dream...
I woke up and it was as if it had really happened to me.I found her and went to see her; and she was as cold as ice to me. My daughter left her husband and all of her adoptive family after we helped her find her birth relations. This experience shattered me in ways I don't know how to put into words. Many people have told me it is normal, that this does happen sometimes to adopted people who are able to find their birth relations. But it happened and is happening to me and I am still getting used to it. I dreampt that I located her and went to see her and she was as cold as ice to me. I pictured furniture as if I was really at her place. I pictured her with a hairdo I had not seen on her before. It was eerie. Her birthday is April 1st and this seemed like a cruel early April Fool's Day prank. Was it my own mind, or God warning me in a dream.
Dream analyzers could have fun with this one. I think I know what it's all about and as disturbing as it was, it helped me, too. I believe it was telling me that she really has "moved on" and it is okay. In the dream she kept saying something about "former life" and "never going back." I would advise or caution adoptive parents to realize that a child you take into your home and heart through adoption never comes alone...and some day you, too, may be greeted with someone who is "cold as ice" but the risk is still worth it. Loving another is always worth the risks.
